On March 16, 2024, the Work Meeting on Advancing the Construction of the "Forging a Strong Sense of Community for the Chinese Nation" Bases, jointly organized by the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Ministry of Education, andthe National Ethnic Affairs Commission, was held at the Central Institute for Ethnic Cadres in Beijing. Chief experts and directors from 28 national bases participated in the meeting.
The meeting emphasized the importance of understanding the significance of building these bases. It called on all base leaders to not only promote the comprehensive development of their work but also to gradually establish unique advantages and distinctive features.
During the meeting, Hua Yanlong, Director of the Second Bureau of the United Front Work Department, conveyed important instructions regarding strengthening the sense of community for the Chinese nation. Mei Hong, Deputy Inspector of the Department of Social Sciences at the Ministry of Education, highlighted the importance of education in fostering this awareness. Finally, Bianba Zhaxi, Deputy Director and Party Member of the National Ethnic Affairs Commission, stressed the strategic importance of establishing a complete theoretical system for strengthening the sense of community for the Chinese nation. He outlined strategic goals, tasks, and expectations for the 28 bases and encouraged them to enhance talent cultivation and organized research efforts. Chen Shou, Director of the Theory Research Department at the National Ethnic Affairs Commission, presided over the meeting.
Professor Han Xiping, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Jilin University Committee and Chief Expert ofChinese Northeastern Nationality Study Center of Jilin University, along with Professor Luo Kequan, Vice Dean of the School of Marxism at Jilin University and Director of theChinese Northeastern Nationality Study Center of Jilin University, spoke as representatives during the group discussions.
Professor Han Xiping elaborated on three key aspects: the distinctive features and advantages ofChinese Northeastern Nationality Study Center of Jilin Universityin strengthening the sense of community for the Chinese nation, the center's achievements in research on Goguryeo, and its future construction directions and plans. His speech was met with positive feedback from the attending officials and high praise from experts and scholars.
In his address, Professor Luo Kequan emphasized that to advance the construction of the base, the center would continue to strengthen exchanges and cooperation, build interdisciplinary research and practice platforms, cultivate academic teams with multidisciplinary expertise, and actively explore collaboration models with local governments and social organizations. He stressed the importance of transforming research findings into a driving force for promoting ethnic unity and progress in Northeast China.
